I have been working
on the Rehearsal series since my teen years, developing characters
and plots and subplots and doing a lot of research into the lives
of musicians. June 2006 marks ten years since I began putting it
onto paper, first with pencil and loose-leaf binders, and then transcribing
it onto the computer, rewriting, and editing and editing some more.
My
acknowledgements are included in the novel, but
I want to add them here, as well: (clicking
on links will open new windows)
I
want to start by thanking Mom for instilling the love for and value
of good music and dance, for waking us up to the sound of the piano
on weekend mornings, for listening to "our" music with
us while we danced around the house taking care of chores, and enjoying
it as we did, and for taking us to see special performances.
I also want to thank my daughter Liz for reading every chapter as
it was printed, for pointing out typos and sentences that needed
clarification, and especially for continually asking, "Where's
my next chapter?"
To my Writing.com family, who has been such a help and inspiration,
especially Jen
and Carol,
who read and helped to edit many, many chapters and stressed how
they were waiting anxiously for the printed version; and to the
blogging group: Sarah,
Susan,
Andra,
David,
Erik,
Andrew,
Winda,
Tracey,
and Gen
in particular, and all the others who encourage me daily. Also to
the StoryMaster
and StoryMistress
for the existance of the site.
To Lin Hanney, Gigi Houghton, Derek Longmuir, Alan and Eileen Longmuir,
and Duncan and Laurie Faure for support and assistance.
To Simon Steadman for allowing use of his lyrics.
To Mary Maxwell, Chris Hawkins, and The Super Seventies Site for
music and cultural research assistance.
To Kris Dawson of RoadieJobs.com for background touring information
(more to be used in the sequels).
And to my readers
who are walking along with me on this journey.
